Take a Look in the Mirror

Over the past several months, my family and I have made some drastic life changes—choices that have required preparation, planning, and the kind of trust that stretches far beyond comfort. We are walking into a journey that demands growth, faith, and a willingness to let go of what is familiar. This season of transition has forced me to pause and really look in the mirror.

In doing so, I’ve had to ask myself questions that seem so simple but carry deep weight:

“Michelle, who are you?”

“What do you believe?”

“What do you truly stand for?”

These questions don’t come when everything is easy and predictable. They rise when we step out of the boat, just like Peter did in Matthew 14:29. When Jesus called Peter out onto the water, Peter had to decide whether he would stay where it was safe or walk toward the Savior in the middle of the storm. Growth doesn’t happen in the shallow end of safety; it happens in the deep.

As I’ve wrestled with my own answers and navigated the questions of others, I’ve been surprised by the clarity God gives in the moment. I’ve spoken words I didn’t know I had until they came out of my mouth. And in those moments, I realized: those answers were not just for others; they were speaking life back into me.

Have you ever prayed for the right words to encourage someone else and then found yourself blessed by the very words you spoke? That’s the beauty of God’s Spirit at work within us. Luke 12:12 reminds us, “For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.” Sometimes, He teaches us about ourselves while we are speaking into others.

If you’re standing on the edge of something unfamiliar, something God is calling you to, take the leap. Yes, there will be questions. There may be fear and uncertainty. But on the other side of obedience is revelation. You will begin to see not only who God is in a deeper way; but who you are in Him.

Two resources that deeply inspired me in this season is the book “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks and “The Winning Attitude” by John Maxwell . These books challenge you to confront internal resistance and transform self-sabotage into growth. For me, pairing them with prayer and scripture opened my eyes to how often I was standing in my own way. It was like holding up a mirror to the heart.

So today, I challenge you:

Take a look in the mirror.

Ask the hard questions.

Say yes to the unfamiliar path.

And trust that God will meet you there.

Scripture for Reflection:

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.” – 2 Corinthians 13:5

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. – Matthew 14:29
