There is a gospel song I love called “Let Go” by Dewayne Woods. The chorus says:
As soon as I stop worrying. Worrying how the story ends. I let go and I let God. Let God have His way. That’s when things start happening. I’ll stop looking at back then. I let go and I’ll let God have His way
A few night ago, as I laid in bed tossing and turning—something I’ve done many nights over the past few weeks—my mind was overwhelmed with doubts, fears, anticipation, and excitement. In the midst of this, the lyrics of this song came to mind, accompanied by a revelation from God.
We (myself included) often forget that we are made in the image of God. This means we are reflections of who He is. The key difference, of course, is that we are tainted by sin.
One of the biggest struggles in today’s society is our relentless determination to have things our own way—a trait that reflects the nature of our Creator. However, unlike God, whose ways are perfect, we tend to see the world through the distorted lens of ego or personal experience rather than a spiritual perspective. Despite this, our sovereign Lord, in His grace, is always operating from a spiritual lens, seeing beyond what we can comprehend.
As I meditated on this song, I realized that whatever I may be wrestling with, instead of insisting on my own way, I need to adjust my perspective. God’s way will always prevail—and it will always be better—no matter how much I might resist it.
Moreover, when we seek God and His righteousness, we begin to reflect more of the Creator’s character, even in the midst of our sin. Over time, our desires and ways align more closely with His.
So, let go and let God have His way. He’s going to anyway, and His way is always best.
