I Believe in You

Since Stephen Jr has been able to express himself, he has been telling me that he will buy me a house. Not only is he going to buy me a place, but he is also going to buy me two houses! Along with buying his grandmother a home. Each time he tells me this, I tell him I believe it, and I can’t wait. We talk about how I want my house to look and how big I want it to be. Then we progress to talking about the cars and motorcycles he will buy for pretty much our entire family, all the way down to his cousin. This child has such a generous heart!

Recently, one of his favorite teachers taught him about a Lamborghini. She explained to him the specifics of the car and why it was her favorite. Since this day, he has talked about this car EVERY DAY!!! He has spoken about how he does or does not want a wing—the type of bumper he would like and even the tires. One morning we looked up a Lamborghini location in Miami, and Stephen realized a number we could call. With boldness, my son asked if we could call and buy the lime green Lambro he saw in the parking lot picture. Being the mom that I am, I said, sure, let’s call. We dialed the number, and when the receptionist answered with all the confidence within him, he said, “Can you please get me that green Lamborghini.” The receptionist realizing he was a child, was very kind and let him down nicely. However, he was still determined to buy himself and everyone else in our family a Lamborghini.

Yesterday, on a family outing to Houston, my husband and I made arrangements to go to Lamborghini Houston. We pulled up on the lot, and with great excitement, Stephen Jr jumped out of the car. He walked into the dealership with approximately $25 of his birthday money, ready to buy his car. The dealer spoke to my husband, who explained why we were there then shifted his focus to our son. He explains to Stephen the showroom car that he wanted was $650,000, that he needed to know how to drive, and he needed a driver’s license. Our son replied I have money, I know how to drive, and I have a driver’s license. All we could do was smile and laugh.

We made a round through the parking lots of Lamborghini, Mclaren, and Porsche. Before leaving, Stephen asked to see and buy his Lamborghini for the last time. My husband walked him in and explained once again why he wasn’t leaving with that car. They walked out of the door, and as soon as they crossed the threshold, my son buried his face into my husband’s leg and broke down into tears. He was crying so much that my husband picked him up, threw him over his shoulders, and told him, “I believe in you. One day with hard work, you can buy yourself a Lamborghini.” Because his father told him this, he believed it. Stephen Jr responded, still in tears, “ok, daddy, when I become a man.”

At that moment, God spoke to me. How many of us believe what our Heavenly Father, who is not a flawed man, tells us even when the odds are against us? Do we believe even when we may have to wait for several years? No matter what the odds are, if your Heavenly Father has given you a word, believe it!
