Stuck in the Mud

Last week, my husband and I had a gentleman come to our home to estimate a job we want to have done. Although we were not home, he looked at the area and spoke to my husband about the details over the phone. As we were getting a bite to eat, my husband received a call from the guy. He was calling to inform us that he hit the covert and was stuck in the ditch as he was backing out of our narrow driveway. He told us that our neighbor was willing to pull him out; they only needed a chain. My husband had several chains in our shed and directed him to them.

When we arrived home, he was still stuck in the ditch and was blocking the majority of our driveway. My neighbors truck was not strong enough to pull him out. I gathered the kids out of the car and had them walk around the truck to get in the house. As I walked behind his vehicle, I realized that it was a brand new, fresh off the lot, dually. I thought to myself, I can’t believe, with all that power, he couldn’t get out by himself. Shortly after the tow truck was there to pull him out. My yard was destroyed, but other than that, all was well.

Yesterday as I was headed to school, I stopped in the middle of the road less than a tenth of a mile from my house to ensure I had my store keys. As I was getting out of my car, I saw my neighbor pulling out of her driveway. I jumped back in my truck and pulled over to the side so that she would have room to drive by. To help you get the picture, I live on a gravel road which is so narrow that if two cars are crossing paths, we often have to be on the edge of the road. Meaning I pull over often. However, yesterday I got stuck.

I tried going forward and backward, nothing. I found myself going deeper and deeper. I made the necessary calls that were needed, and help was soon on the way. I knew that I would be fine, and I wasn’t going to be stuck forever. When I went to God In prayer, I prayed and asked what was God trying to teach me through this.

What God revealed to me encouraged my spirit. I thought because I drove a Tahoe and that because Mr. Allen drove a dually truck, we had enough power in our vehicles to get out of the mud. God showed me that sometimes it is not always the power that is within us. When we get deep enough in the mud, we have to be connected to a more substantial power that can pull us out. Granted, we have to work with that power and follow direction, but we must first be connected to a force stronger than us. Within minutes of the tow truck coming and the help I received yesterday, we were both out of a situation where we were spinning our wheels.

Are you stuck? Do you have people in your life willing to help? Are you connected to, JESUS, the only power strong enough to pull you out?
