Identity in Christ

Where do you find your Identity? There are only two ways that we find our identity, either through horizontal relationships or our vertical relationship with God. Please do not fall into the trap of finding your value through the relationships we have with others. Doing so will have a tremendous effect on how we act in those relationships. When we fail to recognize our identity in Christ, we begin to look for it in and through others, a miserable existence. It is not the responsibility of others to decided how to give us value.

We are in a relationship with broken people. No matter the relationship type, husband and wife, parent and child, friend and friend, each of us are broken in need of rescuing. We will have bad days. We will say and do things that others will consider wrong. We will make bad choices. When we make our relationships about ourselves and our identity, we create a space of tension within those relationships. We begin to focus on reputation and attempts to control it, rather than resting in our identity in Christ.

Even on your worse day, you are loved by God. Focus on that! Stop putting the burden of your identity on others; they can’t carry it.
