Be on Guard! Be Alert!

Today, many of us stop and recount all that happened on September 11, 2001. We discuss the shock, the pain, and the motivation this event brought to our country. We watch videos and tell stories to our children to inform them of the great evil that occurred. We teach them that as a people, we came together. Many stepped up and aided in the restoration and healing of our nation. Since then, many have taken today as an opportunity to stop and pray for the families impacted.

I was only a child when 9/11 took place, and I understood its depth and impact on our nation. Yet, this morning, as I was thinking about this significant event, I also thought of many other tragedies. The one question that consumed my thoughts was that I wonder how many of them who died so unexpectantly had not accepted salvation? I would be a fool not to recognize the gravity of physical death. However, spiritual death is for eternity.

I believe that it is crucial to teach others about how we faced tragedy and overcome daily and even yearly. But I also think that while we teach these things, we teach that physical death will happen. It is inevitable, yet spiritual death is not. We need to teach our children and others that although 9/11 was a horrible tragedy, there is the worst tragedy. As we remember, the events of this day teach the event of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. When we stop and pray, remember to pray for those who don’t know Christ as well.

We need to be spiritually on guard because who’s to say we will have a chance to get ready.

And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert! Mark 13:33
