One of my favorite worship songs is Spirit Lead Me by Influence Music and Micheal Ketterer. This morning I found myself thinking as I was listening to this song, “why is this my favorite?” What is it about this song that makes me feel open enough to pour out my heart to God through song. Of course I love the beat and they are really good singers but its the message that really gets me. I am striving daily to live these lyrics.
This is my worship
This is my offering
In every moment
I withhold nothing
I’m learning to trust You
Even when I can’t see it
And even in suffering
I have to believe it
If You say “it’s wrong”, then I’ll say “no”
If You say “release”, I’m letting go
If You’re in it with me, I’ll begin
And when You say to jump, I’m diving in
If You say “be still”, then I will wait
If You say to trust, I will obey
I don’t wanna follow my own ways
I’m done chasing feelings
Spirit lead me
James tells us in James 1:2-3, Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Notice that James did not say “if” he said when. We will all face trials and sufferings, but it is possible to profit from them. We do not have to pretend that we are happy. We do not have to scream from the mountain top “don’t worry be happy” in all circumstances. However, we can “consider it pure joy” because of the potential growth those trials can produce in our lives.
When we face trials we can trust that God is with us and helping us in troubling times. He is always near us, helping us grow. We only need to ask God for his wisdom and apply that wisdom to our lives. Gods wisdom is not like human wisdom. We have the privilege of choice. I can take someones human advice as a grain of salt. Gods wisdom should never be viewed or treated this way. We should be obedient to his direction in our lives. Asking for his wisdom, in all circumstances, gives us the ability to make wise choices.
Think about your favorite worship song. Why is it your favorite? For me I want to apply the correct action in response to whatever God tells me. I don’t want to follow my own ways. I want to trust and obey even in sufferings.
