How do you rule?

Each of us are created to rule. We all have specific territories that God has given us authority over. For some of us it is our children and families. For others it is with in our job or ministry. We all have something or someone other than ourselves that we are responsible for. We will also be held accountable by God for how we manage what He has entrusted to us. Some have realized this and rule their territory well and others do not.

As I thought on these things, I asked what is the difference between those who rule well and those who do not. I know that there are multiple answers to this question but I found what I believe to be one of them in 2 Chronicles 1:1. This verse says, “Solomon son of David took firm control of his kingdom, for the Lord his God was with him and made him very powerful.”

Solomon took firm control of his kingdom. Solomon did not passively allow his territory to exist. He actively created a solid foundation in which he had influence and power over the behavior or course of events in the lives of those that he was leading. It is important that we realize that we have to actively rule our territory. We can not sit by and expect that our territories will be healthy if we do not take control of it. We need to create a solid foundation in which we can build upon.

The verse says that, the Lord was with Solomon. We can tend to think that what we have been given is ours and that we have complete authority over it. This is not correct. God has entrusted us to manage what belongs to Him. Our territory and all within it still belongs to God. He has not only given us the territory, but He has also given us what we need to properly manage it, including His presence to guide us in doing so. We can not expect to properly manage anything well with out Gods’ guidance. It is through God, and his leadership, that our territories exist and grow.

Today, sit back and think about your territory. What areas of your territory have you not taken firm control of? What can you do to take control of that area? Is God with you in your territory? Are you ruling with God? Are you allowing Him to expand you territory?
