Just listen to your Husband!

My husband rarely complains or fusses about any thing I do, any big idea I have, or plan I think would be great. Majority of the time he shares his thoughts, that I am learning to listen to, then he listens. He listens for and to the good, the bad, and the ugly. However, if there is one thing that drives him nuts it is my inability to say no at times. If he doesn’t say anything else he for sure tells me; “Bae you really need to think about this, How much time will it take, will this take away from our children, and how much will it cost.” But I am super woman, right? Can I not do all things with out it being a problem?

For years, I failed to listen to my husbands sound advice. I would often act in haste. As I grow in faith, the more I read scripture, the more God adds to my understanding. One thing I’ve learned is that on many occasions I was and still am a fool. I can be so quick to do that I fail to count the cost. Over the past several years, I realized that having a relationship with Christ is not for the weak at heart. There are challenges along the Christian journey that can cause us to run from God or doubt Him. That is why Jesus teaches in Luke 14:25-35 to count the cost of being a disciple. I have counted the cost of being a follower of Christ. No matter what obstacles or adversity come my way, no matter the testing of faith, no matter the loses, I am a disciple of Christ.

However, I failed to look at this principle in any other way than counting the cost of discipleship. I failed to see the daily practical application. As I write this devotional, I have a place in my yard that has over 30 cinderblocks. I have had these blocks for over a year now. They were meant to be a DIY project. But I failed to count the cost. Now they are just an ugly pile that my husband dreads looking at.

28 “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?  29 Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you.  30 They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’

Questions:

Have you counted the cost of being a follower of Christ?

Do you count the cost in you decision making?
